German Votivtafel Prayer Board, Devotional Folk Painting on Board

A German votive prayer board (Votivtafel) — a devotional folk painting on board depicting Maria holding Jesus, a priest seated on an ox holding a chain with lock, and an angel with anointing oil. A fabulous little painting, rich with narrative detail. Votive boards like this hung in Bavarian chapels as offerings of thanks; it makes a wonderful piece for a home chapel, gallery wall, or collector of religious folk art. Suits rustic, Alpine, and traditional interiors.
